The start of a new year can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. If you’ve been trying to improve your executive functioning in an effort to make your life run smoother, you’re probably familiar with those feelings. With so many possibilities ahead of us, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut or become overwhelmed.
Now is the time to reset your mindset and create a plan of action. Resetting your mindset can help you stay motivated and focused on your goals, and it can help you create a more positive and productive environment.
Benefits of Resetting Your Mindset
Resetting your mindset can have many benefits. It can help you break free from negative thought patterns and create a positive outlook. It can help you stay focused on your goals and create a plan of action. It can also help you stay motivated and energized, even when faced with challenges. A positive mindset can help you create a more balanced lifestyle and find more enjoyment in life.
The thing about mindset is that in order for it to work and have the optimum impact, you actually have to believe in what you’re working on. So often, our own negative thought patterns (that nasty critical voice in your head) keep us from believing in ourselves. It takes time and effort to make that mindset shift, but once you do, the benefits can be amazing.

Identifying Your Goals
The first step to reset your mindset is to identify your goals. What do you want to achieve in the coming year? What areas of your life do you want to focus on? Think about the areas that are most important to you, and make a list of goals that you want to achieve. This list should include both short-term and long-term goals. Once you have a clear understanding of what you want to accomplish, you can start creating a plan of action.
If you haven’t thought about where to start, take a look at this post about vision boards. It not only helps with figuring out your goals for the year, but it also helps with mindset work.
Overcoming Self-Doubt
Once you’ve identified your goals, it’s important to take steps to overcome any self-doubt or fear. It’s normal to feel uncertain or scared when starting something new, but it’s important to remember that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Remind yourself of your capabilities and take small steps towards achieving your goals. Celebrate your successes and keep moving forward.
This goes hand in hand with a mindset shift. You have to believe you can make the changes in your life that you seek. Even if you’ve failed before. Even if you make mistakes. Even if you don’t have anyone in your corner who believes you can (but you do – you have me! I KNOW you can do it).
Don’t listen to the naysayers who roll their eyes and say you can’t do it (especially if the negative voice is your own). I’m telling you that you can. I’ve been working with executive function clients for years. They find success when they start believing in themselves.
Setting Boundaries
Setting boundaries is an important part of resetting your mindset. Boundaries help to create a healthy balance between work and life. It’s important to set boundaries between work and home, and between yourself and other people. Setting boundaries can help you to stay focused and productive.
Those naysayers we mentioned? They’ll require some boundaries. It’s important for you to protect yourself as you work to improve yourself.
Finding Balance
Finding balance is also essential to reset your mindset. Balance means finding time for work, rest, and leisure. When you have a balanced lifestyle, you can stay focused on your goals and be more productive. Take time to rest and relax, and make sure you take breaks throughout the day. This will help you stay energized and motivated.
Yeah, I hear some of you laughing at the idea of balance. I don’t always have great balance in my life. But you need to take care of yourself. Balance is an individual thing. My idea of balance and yours won’t match and that’s okay.
Creating a Positive Environment
Creating a positive environment is key to resetting your mindset. Fill your space with positive affirmations and inspirational quotes. Surround yourself with people who are supportive and encouraging. Take time each day to practice mindfulness and gratitude. These activities can help to create a more positive environment and a healthier mindset.
Staying Motivated
Staying motivated is essential for achieving your goals. Motivation (or lack thereof) is the number one reason I’ve had clients stumble as they try to improve their executive functioning. Changing your life, your routines, your habits, is hard. It takes time and energy. And for many people who have executive dysfunction, lack of immediate success is defeating.
That’s why it’s important to set small goals and celebrate your successes. Reward yourself for reaching your goals (no matter how little). Create a visual reminder of your goals and check in with yourself regularly. Remind yourself of why you are doing this and the difference it will make in your life.
Practicing Gratitude
Practicing gratitude is an important part of resetting your mindset. Gratitude helps to shift your focus to the positive and can help to create a more positive outlook. Take time each day to reflect on the things you are grateful for. Make a list of all the good things in your life and take time to appreciate them. This will help to create a more positive mindset and will keep you motivated.
Reflection
Regularly take time for reflection. You should do this at least monthly and definitely at the end of the year. Think about what you have achieved and the lessons you have learned. Celebrate your successes and make note of the areas you would like to improve. Use this reflection to set new goals and create a plan of action. Resetting your mindset is essential for staying motivated and achieving your goals. With the right mindset, you can make the most of the new year and create a more productive and positive environment.
Resetting your mindset can help you stay focused and motivated, and it can help you create a healthier lifestyle. Take the time to identify your goals, overcome any self-doubt or fear, set boundaries, and practice gratitude.
So, if you’re looking to reset your mindset for a productive new year, these tips will help you get started. With the right mindset, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
Take action now and start the new year with a positive and productive mindset.
